Benefits-Related HR Policy References

UNC Health Care Employee Benefits Department has created this policy page as a reference guide to policies regarding Employee Benefits for both supervisors and employees. The information listed below is open for interpretation.

UNCHealth Care's Human Resources Management Policies and Procedures Manual can be accessed online from the HR Web site: www.unchealthcare.org/site/humanresources.

Inquiries regarding clarification of policies should be directed to the Employee Relations Department at 919-966-2261.


Leave of Absence
Employees inquiring about Leave of Absence (LOA) should first consult their supervisor. If the employee's supervisor cannot provide the information, the supervisor should contact one of the Benefits Analysts in the Employee Benefits Department at 919-966-2027.

It is very important for employees who are placed on LOA to contact the Employee Benefits Department so they can be instructed on how to continue their benefits while out on leave.

Voluntary Shared Leave
Employees inquiring about Voluntary Shared Leave (VSL) should first consult their supervisor. If the employee's supervisor cannot provide the information, the supervisor should contact one of the Benefits Analysts in the Employee Benefits Department at 919-966-2027.

VSL forms should be obtained from an employee's supervisor and not the Employee Benefits Department. Supervisors can click below to download Voluntary Shared Leave forms and instructions.

Family Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA)
Employees inquiring about FMLA should first consult their supervisor. If the employee's supervisor cannot provide the information, the supervisor should contact the Employee Relations Department at 919-966-2261.
