UNC Health Care seeks nurses for our growing PICU, which expanded from 16 to 20 beds in February 2009. The unit is part of a Children’s Service with a Level I Trauma Center designation. We receive patients from across North Carolina and beyond, and our diverse patient population ranges from newborns to 18-year-olds. Patients are admitted to a variety of pediatric specialties, including neuro, general and cardiothoracic surgeries, orthopedics, pulmonary and more. We also treat patients on Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). Our independent staff participate in self-scheduling; orientation is competency-based and tailored to each new employee’s specific needs. We offer diverse opportunities for enriching evidence-based practice and research. Current projects include Six Sigma improvement processes, focused on reducing hospital-associated infections, and multidisciplinary training in TeamSTEPPS, a program to improve teamwork/team communication and improve patient outcomes.
